My Story
I LOVE FOOD! In all seriousness, enjoying food is a priority for me and this is the foundation for how I approach working with my clients. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a household that celebrated food and strive to inspire this attitude in others. I believe that enjoying food and life are integral to being our best selves and living happy, healthy lives.
While I have always had a healthy relationship with food, there have been bumps along the way. A little over ten years ago I found myself getting sicker and sicker, with one seemingly unrelated illness or symptom after another. I tried to find help but none of the avenues I tried were effective and I didn't know where to turn. I ate what I believed to be a healthy diet, exercised, and lived a pretty healthy lifestyle. Nobody could find anything "wrong" with me, yet I felt terrible and struggled to even get out of bed. Eventually, out of sheer desperation, I started doing research on my own and made some dietary changes. The results were astounding. How could the answer have been so simple and right in front of my face the whole time? Why did I struggle so much to find answers? Why did nobody know how to help me? I resolved to learn more and to help others regain and maintain their health. I hold a Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Integrative Health at the Maryland University of Integrative Health and am working towards licensure as a Certified Nutrition Specialist. Being a nutrition coach allows me to combine my love of food, my passion for helping others, and my fascination with the intricacies of the human body.
You might be asking yourself what exactly IS integrative health? This term means a few things to me. Everything in the body is interrelated and I look at each individual as a whole. Healthy eating isn't just about good nutrition, it's also about nourishing your body and soul. I will work with you on making good lifestyle choices to enable to you to live life to the fullest. I also believe that our health and wellness are intertwined with the well-being of our planet and that in order to achieve optimal health, we need to integrate ourselves with our environment. My philosophy is simple. I advocate a primarily whole foods diet, or what I like to call eating real, delicious food. That can mean a lot of different things, and as my client you will have a say in what avenues we explore. My approach is personalized because your nutritional needs are as unique as you are. Nutrition isn't one-size-fits-all and I believe in establishing true partnerships with my clients.
Today's society is incredibly fast-paced and so few of us take the time to take care of ourselves. We lead busy lives, full of many interests and responsibilites. Nobody understands that better than I do. In addition to supporting my clients as they achieve their goals, I am also a professional flutist (I like to call myself a flutritionist!), mother, teacher, lifelong student, and I have more hobbies than I can fit on this page. I understand that we are all at different points and will meet you wherever you are. My goal is to help you find ways to make your health a priority so that you can enjoy this crazy adventure we call life.
There's no better time than the present to take care of yourself. Check out my Services page and schedule an appointment today.
